Paperweight

This publication is the brainchild of UK scholar of visual and material culture Juliette Kristensen. Paperweight, “A Newspaper of Visual and Material Culture,” will publish its first issue in October 2010; we’ll publish every six months from now on. Juliette describes PW’s mission quite eloquently: “Drawing together writers, researchers, academics, enthusiasts, designers, artists and curators, each issue of Paperweight takes a timely theme related to visual and material culture, and uses it as a starting point, or an end point, or something in-between.” The first issue’s theme is ”Screens”; the second is “Ghosts”.

I contribute a column called “Notes on Toys,” as well as serving as co-editor.

Spring/Summer 2011: “Faraway Fronts, Close to Home.” Toys and World War One. PDF.

Autumn/Winter 2010: “Screening Winky-Dink.” The first “interactive” TV show. PDF.

Email me if you can think of a museum, bookstore, or other locale that should carry PW for sale, or if you are attached to a department of visual or material culture and want some copies for your students.
